Exodus Wear founder Elyse Daniels made the pages of the Sydney Morning Herald recently, featuring alongside small business owners as they share their secret to success.

With today’s headlines dominated by stories on rising living costs; real estate, electricity and petrol, there is more pressure than ever for small businesses to keep up.

Anne Nalder, chief executive and founder of Small Business Association of Australia, told the Sydney Morning Herald she is concerned by a new Scottish Pacific survey that found 65.4 per cent of small business owners are financing businesses from their own pockets.

‘It shows just how many small businesses are really scraping the bottom of the barrel just to keep going,’ Nalder says.

Despite the pressure and increase in competition, Daniels is one of the many small business owners in Australia keeping it simple for the benefit of her customers.

Her business Exodus Wear makes custom school jackets, and it maintains a fixed pricing strategy made possible by its diverse product range.

With this strategy in mind, price points are based on quantity rather than the customisation, and include sizing, a free sample piece, free freight and GST. The prices are set and are easy to remember.

‘When we entered the market everyone else was about $20 cheaper but the quality was rubbish,’ says Daniels. ‘We have become so well known for this easy to remember price we have actually turned it into a unique selling point.’
