In early 2016, as Year 12 students started to feel the pressure of their final year, Princess Pictures gave 14 different students to keep video dairies during the school year. This emotional and surprisingly hilarious vlogumentary series is part of an initiative of the ABC network to represent a younger audience in 2017.

Each episode will consist of the hard-working teenagers talking about the challenges they face and what the future looks like to an 18 year old. Some key issues expressed on the show displayed on the ABC’s website are parental and cultural pressures, family support, school pressures, body image, stress and anxiety, expectations, school and life balance and much more.  The vlogs also include input by the student’s parents and friends to help understand the complex and diverse pressures and expectations faced by Year 12 students in their final year and how it impacts a family as a whole. The show aims to encourage the viewers to initiate a conversation in their own homes.

The show also weaves in excerpts and footage from he teenagers Instagram and Snapchat accounts to give the viewer a more personal and intimate experience. An excerpt from one of the students vlogs which can be found on the ABC website shows an example of the heart-warming and confronting issues expressed through the show. “I’m not going to let four letters and a number on a piece of paper at the end of it all tell me what I can and can’t be. I refuse to let something tell me what I can and can’t be.”

My Year 12 Life will be aired on ABC ME, ABC iView and ABC early 2017.
