Recently a documentary, hosted by Ian Thorpe, called Bullied was released on ABC. This documentary brings to light modern day bullying, the effects it has on others and how to deal with the issue in schools.

The documentary was created by giving bullied children hidden cameras which they kept in their bags so that they could film the times they were bullied and have proof for their parents, teachers and principal. The results of this footage was then turned into the documentary Bullied. The documentary shows the harassment that students face including both verbal, physical and online abuse. It includes the reactions of school authority figures and how many schools are ill-equipped to deal with such situations. In the case that was followed, the school allowed a bullying program to be run in order to confront the problem.

Bullying is not new, it has always been around, it will always be around. The key addressing it is to educate students and schools about what it is and how to deal with it if it arises. Most importantly it is about teaching students the effects of abuse, how it makes students feel and the potential dire consequences. It is about ensuring that schools create a culture based on kindness and respect for others, so that all students feel safe.

It is up to you to decide what kind of person you are going to be one that spreads hate and fear or one that spreads love and kindness. In my opinion there is enough hate, violence and fear in the world. We are better off spreading good.
