Raunchy school jerseys no laughing matter

SCHOOLS are cracking down on students using offensive and inappropriate names on their senior jerseys – with some moving to outlaw the tradition.

The year 12 students are pushing boundaries by requesting names such as 13 Yrs Wasted, DTF, Prego, I’m Easy, im edgeukated and Maggot.

Mantra Uniforms and Promotions accounts manager Jaye Walton said surprisingly it was girls who push the limit.

“Girls have some raunchy ones, boys too, but girls are definitely the ones to watch” Mr Walton said. “The nicknames that come through on each order form crack me up and some even concern me a little.

“I always contact a teacher before adding the names to the print list .”

Mr Walton said some schools have been forced to take the drastic step of banning students from buying the year 12 memorabilia.

“I have dealt with quite a few schools who have said, ‘look, we aren’t going to do them anymore, it is too much of a headache’,” he said.

“Every single time we get a list of names from a school there will be a rude request. It all comes down to whether a teacher has picked up on it or whether it has gone over their head which a lot of the time it has.”

Exodus Wear sales executive Elyse Daniels said teachers have been forced to use Urban Dictionary to decipher some of the nicknames.

While we were putting together some information for Briana we thought it would be interesting to do a bit of an analysis ourselves and discovered that the most popular nickname overall is ‘Shawty’ and the most popular symbol is a smily face. The second most popular is a love hear. A lot of students still use basic things like adding “anator” (e.g. elyseanator), adding a “y” at the end of their name or adding “azza”. Another simple nickname used a lot is to add ‘Dawgz’ e.g. elyse-dawgz

It was definately an interesting exercise and caused a lot of laughing in the office. We can’t wait to see what new nicknames everyone will come up with.
