To do just that, Adidas has paired up with the marine environmental group Parley for the Oceans, to create a new sports shoe thats environmentally sound. The shoe is manufactured using only yarn, filaments and plastic recycled from the ocean. The shoe’s London-based designer Alexander Taylor said that this project made him work in a new way and discover ways in which the German company could adapt and thrive in the future’s world. He also stated that, “A designer can be the agitator and the agent for change. He must be entrepreneurial in spirit, seeking out collaborators to reach amazing solutions which outperform and offer truly viable alternatives to current methods.”

The beautiful aqua design of the shoe is created using recycled gill net, which was collected from the sea and recycled into plastic fibre, and the rest of the upper of the show is made from recycled plastic found in the oceans in the Maldives. Parley for the Oceans is attempting to rid the Maldives of plastic within five years.

Adidas are now looking for more sustainable ways to manufacture these stylish recycled shoes, stating that these shows a new prototype design dealing with materials that are not usually used for footwear. Through the coming months they will research new innovative techniques and technologies to manufacture these shows in a more environmentally sound way. These sports shoes will be released with a new line of apparel that are made form recycled waste and raises awareness of environmental issues.
