You’re going to have a lot of #feels when you start Year 12. It’s your final year of school, so you’ll be sad about the prospect of leaving your friends, and you’ll probably be nervous about the exams at the end, but also so excited about your future!

As you start Year 12, you’re going to want to make sure you’re ready for the best year possible. So, here are five things you MUST do when you start Year 12, to make sure it’s a year you’ll love and never forget.

  1. Start documenting

There are going to be a bunch of ‘lasts’ in Year 12. Last swimming carnival, last first day, last maths class… and you’re going to want to remember all these last things! Arm yourself with a camera or your phone and take lots of pictures whenever you experience one of these last things. But don’t forget to document the normal days too. In a few years’ time, silly selfies from study periods are going to be surprisingly meaningful to you.

  1. Make nice with your teachers

In Year 12, your relationships with your teachers may change a little. You’re basically an adult, and they’re going to expect you to act that way. Now is not the time for rudeness, disrespect or mucking up in class. Treat your teachers with the courtesy you’d like them to give you, and enjoy a year without the worry of calls home to your parents. Plus, when your relationship with your teachers improves, you’ll find it easier to ask for their help and advice as you pursue your post-school goals. They’re there to assist you in learning, so take advantage of that!

  1. Figure out schoolies and the formal EARLY

The earlier you book your schoolies trip and your formal, the cheaper they’re going to be. Get your squad together and start planning what you want to do to celebrate the end of exams, whether it’s an adventure at the Gold Coast or a week of relaxation. There are more than likely going to be issues sorting out everyone’s payments and rooming, and the earlier you get this sorted the less stress you have to deal with later on. Same with the formal – make sure there’s a committee in your year group working on all the deals and securing a venue. Formals aren’t easy to organise but giving yourself plenty of time will make everything much smoother in the end.

  1. Create a study timetable

A study timetable is an essential tool for exam success, so make one now and enjoy watching your results improve. Even a simple timetable where you allocate which subjects you’ll focus on each day of the week will help you to stay on top of your revision, so that when the final exams come around you don’t have to cram. The more prepared you are now, the less stress you’ll have to deal with later.

  1. Get your Year 12 jerseys or jackets sorted

What’s one of the best things about being the top of the school? Having an awesome addition to your uniform so that everyone knows you’ve made it! Get your grade together and work out what you’ll be wearing and what awesome nicknames you’ll have on the back, then get your order in early so you can have the jerseys or jackets for as long as possible.
