At Exodus Wear instead of sticking to templates or a set list of options that our customers have to chose from we prefer to give them a blank canvas, ask them to come up with anything they want and then we go away and see if we can make it.
One challenge we recently worked on was for Johnny Young Talent School who wanted us to print ‘selfies’ on their jacket lining. Some of their dancers were going on a dance tour to the USA and they wanted to do something a bit different for their jackets. If you are wondering what a ‘selfie’ is according to Urban Dictionary a ‘selfie’ is “A strange phenomenon in which the photographer is also the subject of the photograph, in a subversive twist on the traditional understanding of the photograph. Usually conducted because the subject cannot locate a suitable photographer to take the photo, like a friend”
Each dancer took a funny ‘selfie’ and a serious ‘selfie’ that was given to our graphics team and then we had to come up with a way to present them on the lining. The design we came up with was to lay all the ‘selfies’ out as a hall of fame wall and then we put each dancer’s name in a star next to their ‘selfies’.
When we emailed the below mock-up through to the dance school they absolutely loved it and were so excited to see how the final jaket would turn out.
The final jacket turned out fantastic and the lining of course was the best part!
The cool thing about this design is that it didn’t require a professional photographer or a set day and time to take everyone’s photo. Each dancer just took a selfie on their phone and then submitted it. Because the dancer took the photo themselves their individual personalities were captured as opposed to typical official photos where everyone has their ‘photo face’ on. The lining will be a great piece of memorabilia that the dancers can look back on for years to come and remember the friends they made and the amazing experiences they had on their dance tour.
