Tips for High School Student

1.      Draft an outline

Make a quick outline and list out all your possible experience. It doesn’t matter whether is paid or unpaid. Just include them in your resume before you try to find the right word to describe them. You can also view some examples of each section of a resume.

2.      Include your contact details

You have to make sure the employer know who you are and able to get in touch with you!

3.      Put in all your activities

If you have any extra-curricular activities, volunteer work, academics, leadership position and athletic pursuit, just include them into your resume. This is important as it shows whether you have the right character, work ethics, skills, and personality to succeed in a job. For each item, remember to list down your responsibilities and accomplishments.

4.      Include Informal Work Experience

If you have any formal paid work experience, certainly note it down. However, if you do not have any, don’t panic! You can include your informal work experience like babysitting, pet sitting or anything else that you have done to earn money.

5.      Resume Skills

It would be nice to include any skills related to the job which you are applying for. You may have acquired many skills that you can include in your resume from school, sports, extra-curricular activities and volunteering. Click here to view some examples of resume skills.

6.      Use action verbs

Start off the phrases in your description with action verbs such as organized, served, taught and trained. This is to portray your resume in a dynamic way.

7.      Keep it short

Your resume need not be long. One and half pages will do~

8.      Proofread your draft

Make sure there is no spelling or grammar errors before you finalise it. You may also ask your parents, relatives, teachers or whoever that have experience in writing resume to proofread your resume.
