Your graduation is probably one of the most exciting parts of your final year of school that many people start to plan for even months in advance! There are a lot of options out there that you can choose form when deciding what to wear so it can definitely be overwhelming – especially if you don’t know anyone who has graduated from your school!

Before we get into what to wear, I have a few tips from my graduation that I found really helpful:

  • Always make sure you are comfortable in what you are wearing. There is no point wearing something you don’t like just to fit in – this is a celebration of your achievements and you should feel comfortable to wear something that reflects who you are!
  • Have a think about what you would like to wear a while in advance. Sometimes you could find something you love on sale throughout the year, which gives you a lot more money to spend on things like your hair, makeup and shoes!
  • Make sure you pay attention to the dress code, however. Some schools are happy to let students wear anything as long as it is formal clothes. However, some schools may be a little stricter and want students to wear long dresses etc.
  • If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on hair and makeup, maybe try and have a search for some tutorials – YouTube is a brilliant resource! However, if you don’t feel comfortable have a look at where you could go to get it professionally done. Some places do graduation/formal packages so you can save a bit of money!

Now, what you’re here for – what to actually wear!

I’ll just be covering clothes as the type of shoes you will wear depends on what you choose to wear and your comfort level with different kinds of heels etc. There are many options to fit all budgets for graduations!

One of the most popular options is a maxi dress, which can provide a lot of variety while being classic and classy. You could either go with a simple maxi dress (such as the one below) and keep the focus on your accessories or choose a dress with some more detail on it to really show your personality!

If you’re not into long dresses, many people are now choosing to wear midi dresses, which are formal enough for an event for graduation but are a little more fun to wear! They are especially a good idea if you are from a hotter area and might get uncomfortable wearing a lot of fabric. Many girls who choose to wear these often go for dresses under the ‘prom’ category that can be found online such as the one below:

Some girls don’t like dresses and that is totally okay! There are a lot of alternatives out there for girls who would rather wear something more like a suit. For example, here is a colourful formal suit that can be bought as separates if you just want one item, or as a whole outfit:
